Understanding KS2 SATs

What are KS2 SATs?

KS2 SATs are national tests taken by children in Year 6 in England. These tests assess pupils in English and Maths, and they help to measure the progress of pupils and the performance of the school.

Subjects Covered:

  • English: Reading, Grammar, Punctuation, and Spelling.
  • Maths: Arithmetic and Reasoning.

Why are SATs Important?

  • Assess Progress: They help to understand how well children have learned the KS2 curriculum.
  • School Performance: They provide data on the school’s performance.

Test Format and Timetable

English:

  1. Reading Test: A single paper with questions based on three different texts.
  2. Grammar, Punctuation, and Spelling Test:
    • Paper 1: Short answer questions.
    • Paper 2: Spelling test.

Maths:

  1. Paper 1: Arithmetic.
  2. Papers 2 and 3: Mathematical reasoning.

Timetable:

  • Tests are usually held over four days in May.
  • Specific dates and times will be communicated by the school.

How to Support Your Child

Preparation Tips:
